If By Yes release debut album

Ever keen to keep you up to date with interesting new stuff, we thought we'd introduce you to If By Yes, who released their debut album on Chimera Music last week.

The band is the collaborative project helmed by Petra Haden, the vocalist behind Imaginaryland and Petra Haden Sings The Who Sell Out, and Yuka Honda, who has been playing jazz, hip-hop, funk, pop and avant-garde music in various New York City bands for eons. Currently, as well as being a lynchpin in If By Yes, Honda is also playing with Sean Lennon and Yoko Ono in the new Plastic Ono Band.

Honda and Haden began writing together almost ten years ago and consequently their sound has evolved slowly and organically, and they are joined in If By Yes by guitarist Hirotaka “Shimmy” Shimizu and drummer Yuko Araki, both long time members of the Japanese band Cornelius. Meanwhile, contributors that appear on debut album, Salt On Sea Glass, include David Byrne, who duets on Eliza.

The result of all this is a bunch of songs that display exquisite and playful sensibilities, futuristic rhythms and other-worldly sounds. Find out more at the If By Yes Myspace page.
