Berlin Festival 2012 boasts an awesome line-up

Here are two questions that you will, without doubt, answer 'yes' to. 1. Do you like Berlin? 2. Do you like music festivals? See, told you. Double affirmatives all round. Well, combine the two and what have got? A pretty frickin' sweet way to spend a couple of days, that's what.

The Berlin Festival takes place at the historic Tempelhof Airport on September 7th and 8th and there are so many amazing acts to feast your eyes and ears upon. Like (deep breath): Grimes, Django Django, Dada Life, Sigur Rós, Franz Ferdinand, Orbital, Little Dragon, Friendly Fires, The Killers, Metronomy, SBTRKT, Daughter, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Clock Opera, Of Monsters And Men, Friends, Kate Nash, First Aid Kit, Nicolas Jaar, Miike Snow, Crocodiles, When Saints Go Machine ... the list goes on and on.

This years edition will also play host to the world’s biggest Silent Arena Aftershow Party. With 10,000+ headphones, ticket holders will be able continue partying like silent mentalists after the final main stage performance from midnight till 4am. There will also be an Art Village showcasing over 60 national and international artists. Urban art, murals, performances, sculptures and more will all be on show plus an art bazaar, bars, booths, and the Design & Record Label Market as well as the art prize and a costume competition.

Grimes - Visions

Liana Gow-Killingbeck gets movin' to the sweet sounds of Grimes:

The first time I heard the new Grimes album was a tad embarrassing. I decided I was going to listen to Canadian Claire Boucher’s third record, Visions, in the car whilst driving to the beach, you know, because there’s something rather awesome about cruising around town, windows down, to yummy new tunes. What I didn’t realise was the effect this bewitching record would have upon me and my poor, unsuspecting limbs.

As a dancer, I can’t help but react physically to music that captivates me, and Visions succeeded to do just that. Consequently, I found myself whipping out some crazy D-moves all the way into town; shoulder popping, head rolling, finger clicking fun, and boy did my imagination run wild (I envisioned myself dancing on the moon attired in alfoil with loads of aliens and robots surrounding me – quite a normal reaction, I’m sure).

This was fine until I realised that the car full of teenagers driving adjacent to me found my wacky physical interpretations to be just as amusing as the energetic songs themselves. Whooops-a-daisy.

Grimes - Nightmusic

When we first chanced upon Grimes a few months ago, we played the video for Oblivion to death. It was seriously on constant fucking rotation for weeks and weeks. So, today we did a little bit of wee in our pants when we discovered that her new video has just dropped. Nightmusic (feat. Majical Cloudz) is the second video to be taken from Visions and is directed by regular Grimes conspirator John Londono.

Following on from the mega mega brilliant clip for Oblivion, this time Claire channels her darker side, and goes all modern goth on us. Sick. Check it out above and literally feel your crush on her grow by the second.

Grimes - Oblivion

The NME recently described Grimes as the number 1 Most Exciting Band To Watch In 2012. While, to be honest, the NME stopped being relevant in about 2001, for once have got something spot on. We abso-flipping-lutely love Grimes and have been watching the above clip on a constant loop since it dropped in our inbox at the end of last week.

Claire Boucher, the creative force behind Grimes, developed the project after moving to Montreal in 2006 and the result is representative of the burgeoning DIY scene where both punk ethos and pop music collide. Oblivion is taken from Visions, which will be Grimes’ fourth release in less than two years.
