Support the Queensland Flood Appeal

Brisbane has been the source of some of the great music we have shared with you over the past few years. Most recently, we brought you the rather fine Montpelier clip, Last Boat (above).

You will, of course, be aware that Brisbane, and indeed a large part of Queensland, is under a whole lotta water at the moment, having been hit by one of the worst natural disasters in Australia's history. When we spoke to our good friends at SGC Media in Brisbane - the people responsible for making us aware of the excellence of Montpelier - they told us the following.

"Last night our office was expected to be about waist-deep in water, but thankfully we were spared, with the water stopping a couple of inches before flowing into our office.

So many of our friends and family have not been so lucky however, with some estimates of over 20,000 families having their houses damaged or totally destroyed by this disaster, not to mention even more devastation in regional areas including 14 deaths and more being reported every hour. Here's a photo from our office this morning after the water subsided about a foot from its overnight peak.

It is quite unbelievable given we're not that close to the river. To give you one more perspective, here's an aerial view of the city.

We are very lucky to have escaped the heartbreak of so many and we'd love to share the story of Brisbane's plight with as many as possible. We're very proud of our town and watching pictures of things like our river walk destroyed, CBD under water and people's livelihoods destroyed, it breaks our hearts."

So, friends, fans and music lovers, it's time to dig your hands into your pockets and give generously to the disaster relief appeal that the Australian Government has set up. Click here and help a brother out.

Montpelier and Abbe May unleash new video clips

At BobbySix.com we're always keen to give a platform to Australian talent, so here are a couple of acts for your consideration:

Firstly, check out Montpelier's fine clip (above). Things have moved at lightning pace for the Brisbane four-piece in 2010. Amongst a hectic touring schedule surrounding their debut EP earlier this year, they have supported the likes of Frightened Rabbit and Biffy Clyro. This track is the first to be lifted from an upcoming EP due for release in April 2011, with the clip produced in paper stop-motion by Sydney filmmaker Paul Andrew Rhodes.

In contrast to Montpelier's animated offering, Abbe May's clip almost requires 3D glasses as it practically bursts out of the screen. Shot in Brooklyn with UK Director Zena Loxton, the clip cuts between the understated Abbe and three snake-hipped roller dancing chicks. The result = awesomeness. Anyhoo, if you like what you hear, then May has two albums and two EPs that you can wrap your ears around.
