Melbourne goes Italian for the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project

Last month, Smirnoff revealed that Australia will be swapping nightlife experiences with Italy as part of a unique global experience in which 50 countries celebrate the best of their local nightlife. Now, more deets have been released, and it turns out that Melbourne will host the Australian Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project on 12th November, with a one-of-a kind Italian themed event taking place at Peninsula, on the Harbour Esplanade in the Docklands.

While Aussie groups Nervo and Bang Gang Deejays jet over to Italy, Melbourne gets ready to experience a real taste of an Italian festa, with over 2,500 guests expected to attend. Junior Jack & Kid Créme and Alex Gaudino will headline the Italian-inspired event at Peninsula and the warehouse space will contain several different zones, constructed especially for the event. Each room will represent an element of Italian nightlife – offering Australian fans a chance to “travel” from historical Rome, to an 80s disco in the Alps, to fashionable cocktails in Milan, in just one night.

Australia’s ambassador Anna Lunoe will play host on the night and is calling out to fans of nightlife to get involved in the biggest event of the year by applying for free tickets to the event via the Smirnoff Australia Facebook page. It's gonna be frickin awesome.

Meanwhile, Palaisozak in the Italian city of Turin will be transformed into an Australian beach party for 3000 people, complete with palm trees and deck chairs, with Nervo and Bang Gang Deejays performing from a specially constructed lifeguard hut. Italian radio DJ and Smirnoff ambassador Max Brigante will MC the event.

The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project 2010 - Photos

As regular readers will know, The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project took place in 14 countries around the world last weekend and BobbySix.com was at the Canadian-themed event in Bangalore. Expect a full review from the big night in India soon, but, for now, here is what went down in the other locations.

More than 18,000 people from six continents across ten time zones witnessed the result of over 33,000 suggestions as to what characteristics made up each county's local nightlife. Highlights included a surprise performance from dubstep star Tinie Tempah in London, Marcus Schultz bringing some German techno to Cape Town, Brazilian freestyle footballers & samba drummers creating a carnival atmosphere in Sydney and German electronic sensation Peaches teaming up with South African Lim Pop group Gazelle to perform a song they co-wrote especially for the event in Berlin. UK curator Zane Lowe (pictured, top) busted out a DJ set, while live performances from Dirty Vegas in Thailand and Bonde de Role in Australia were streamed live online. Dear Pluto's Debut Flea Market - photos

Dear Pluto, Sydney's coolest vintage venue, hosted its first ever outdoor flea market last weekend. With some of the best dressed kids in town selling their stuff for tiny prices, there were no end of happy customers who grabbed a bargain and chilled out in the Sunday sunshine with some good tunes, some home-baked cookies and some good conversation. The market takes place every month, with the next one falling on Sunday 28th November from 10am - 4pm. Keep an eye on Dear Pluto's facebook page for more news.

While the market was taking place in the sun, Dear Pluto's weekly vintage sale (pictured below) was happening at the same time indoors, offering up the usual amount of awesomeness for insanely cheap prices. Check out the retro goodness every Saturday and Sunday.

Bluejuice to headline Sensity Sydney

When someone tells you about an upcoming musical event for deaf people, you can do one of two things: make the obvious joke about how Jet must be touring again soon, or pay attention and get behind a rather wonderful idea. Sencity is a multi-sensory, multi-faceted, special and unique music event for the deaf, hard of hearing and hearing. The success of the concept has catapulted Sencity into fame within the deaf community in Europe and Africa and, excitingly, is now heading to Australia.

Going out to music events is, for deaf people, often not really an option and so they end up staying within the deaf community, meaning that opportunities to interact with others are pretty limited. And so, to combat this, Sencity was born. At Sencity's Sydney event - on Friday August 27 at Home nightclub, deaf people will be able to feel the passion, emotion and atmosphere of going out to a music event like they never have before. The event is sure to bring together deaf and hearing people and create more networks for young deaf people.

Through the use of special techniques such as vibrating dance floor, deaf people will be able to feel the music the way others hear it. Lyrics are interpreted into sign language by Sign-Singer, while Visual-Jockeys and Food Jockeys will also provide positive sense impressions. There are even Aroma-Jockeys.

A while ago, the good people at Sencity contacted BobbySix.com for suggestions as to which local bands would be suited to play at such an event. They needed to be dynamic, visually interesting, bursting with energy, danceable and, of course fun. One name jumped to mind immediately - Bluejuice.

As well as the loveable Sydneysiders, the recently-announced line-up includes Bang Gang (Doom), DJ Joey Kaz, Samba Ninja and a host of others. So, regardless of whether you are deaf, hard of hearing or simply fancy a memorable and fun night out, then snap up your tickets here and prepare to party with your senses!

A year in film...

A Year In Film is the debut solo photographic exhibition by Christos Christou and features double exposures, film swaps and cross processing.

Christos is an Eastbourne-based photographer who uses 35mm film and a range of classic and new analogue cameras. His first exhibition showcases some of the techniques he has been employing, such as taking a picture of an everyday image like a telephone kiosk, then rotating the camera 180 degrees and taking another shot before winding on the film. What is created is abstract and until the film is processed there is no way of knowing how whether it has worked. Another technique is film-swapping. Christos invites Flickr users to shoot a roll of 35mm film, then rewind without processing and send it to him. He then, without knowing what is on the film, shoots the entire roll again.

Christos' exhibition takes place at Okto in Eastbourne, East Sussex, England from Thursday 8th July until 8th August.
