Last Night brings the party to The Gaelic every Friday

If you're in Sydney and need something to do with your Fridays. then you should hit up the ever awesome Last Night - the weekly shindig brought to you by the Purple Sneakers dudes and dudettes. There have been some sick acts performing there so far, including the man who resurrected the art of white boy dancing and made uber-curls fashionable, Darwin Deez, as well as the amazing Soft Pack, Chicks Who Love Guns, Parades and heaps of other ace bands.

The shit goes down at The Gaelic each Friday. Here are some snaps from previous events, to get you in the mood.

Easter. It's the celebration of when, all those years ago, Jesus spent a long weekend eating loads of chocolate with the Easter Bunny. That's right isn't it? Wait... what? Oh. With a ‘Rumble In The Jungle’ theme, the fifth annual We Had Parties shindig is set to pit the best Sydney club nights against each other, with DJs from LAST NIGHT (aka Purple Sneakers), MUM, GIRL THING, TEEN SPIRIT, F.R.I.E.N.D/s, GHETTO BLASTER and P*A*S*H battling across two rooms.

Getting To Know... Chicks Who Love Guns

Sydney's Chicks Who Love Guns play at The Gaelic this Friday. Vocalist Cass (front left in the above picture) tells us what to expect:

I would describe Chicks Who Love Guns' sound as something that spawned from boredom, then evolved into something a little more thought out. It's got a real brash element to it which is probably the boredom thing coming into play again. We play fast songs, loud songs and generally it's something that we feel is sonically entertaining - at least to people who are in the same boat as us and are sick of generic indie pop blegh.

We take inspiration from all over the place. Xavier (Drums) is as much into watching Dave Grohl or Jimmy Chamberlin play drums as he is into listening to The Budos Band. Jack (Guitar) listens to all sorts of shit too, he makes electronic music on the side in the vein of Flying Lotus or Gaslamp Killer. Mitch (Bass) listens to a lot of 31G bands like The Locust and Some Girls, Mody (Guitar) loves him some Rowland S Howard and Liars but has a pretty keen ear for good local music and always seems to be the one playing us some random band from Brisbane or Melbourne or something. I guess that leaves me, these days I listen to loads of hip hop. A group like OFWGKTA appeals to me heaps (well, all of us really) because they have a real punk ethic to them and seeing footage of them live is more like seeing one of our shows than your standard hip hop gig.

Sydney is pretty good. Some of the music that comes out of here is truly awesome but a lot is rubbish. I'm a grumpy bastard though and really can't stand any music that is too quirky or cutesy and there seems to be a neverending flow of that. There are some great bands here though - Zeahorse, La Mancha Negra, Psychonanny and The Babyshakers, Myth & Tropics, Mother and Son (Wollongong) - bands that have more balls and substance for me. I'm sure it's like that everywhere though, there will always be a counter-culture. Whether we are or they are is something I'm not sure of.

It might surprise people to learn that the G from The G,L + S tattoo Xavier got tattooed in his lip for our video clip has already worn away. Ahaha now he just has L+S.

Our show at The Gaelic will hopefully be one of the best we've done. We haven't played in about two months because we've had a couple of members overseas, so I'm hoping we get a good crowd down. It will be a supremely fun night I think, tell a friend. BYO ruckus. We just may be doing a cover of this:

We Had Parties! The Rumble In The Jungle

Easter Sunday. It's a time for chilling out with the family, eating yourself into a chocolate coma and watching whatever crap movie Channel 10 is serving up for the zillionth time (we're guessing Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason or Love Actually), right? Sound good to you? No. Us neither. Hows about, instead, we all go to the SICKEST PARTY OF THE YEAR?

That's right, Sydneysiders had best get ready to rumble, because the 5th annual We Had Parties is on the horizon. With a ‘Rumble In The Jungle’ theme, the shindig at The Gaelic on Sunday 24th April is set to pit the biggest and best Sydney club nights against each other. In the blue and red corners this year will be LAST NIGHT (aka Purple Sneakers), MUM, GIRL THING, TEEN SPIRIT, F.R.I.E.N.D/s, GHETTO BLASTER and P*A*S*H.

The night will be spread across two rooms; so you can get bare-knuckle and sweaty downstairs by The Boxing Ring, where they'll be ringside girls announcing each heavyweight DJ crew, some knockout tunes and spit buckets. Okay, there won't be spit buckets. That would be gross. Meanwhile, upstairs in The Jungle you can tangle yourself up in the vines and party vibes.

What more could you ask for than all your favourite nights under one roof? So, take full advantage of the public holiday on the following Monday and party with the heavyweights at The Gaelic. Tickets are on sale now through www.moshtix.com.au. See you there!

Die! Die! Die! and Bleeding Knees Club are at The Gaelic Club this Friday.

Die! Die! Die! are back with their third album, Form, and it is the New Zealanders as you have never heard them before. Is it noise pop? Post punk? Shoe gaze? Noise/post/gaze/pop? Who the fuck knows? What it is though, is relentless, reckless, menacing, energetic and melodic. In a word, it's good. Still, why take our word for it? You can hear and see for yourself, as Die! Die! Die! are currently playing tracks from Form, as well as some old favourites, on stages across Australia. They're at the Croation Club in Newcastle tonight, Melbourne's Ding Dong on Saturday and tomorrow will be causing some serious damage at Sydney's Gaelic Club as part of the ever-brilliant party, Last Night.

Hitting up the same stage at The Gaelic are Bleeding Knees Club. The irrepressible garage-pop 'n' surf-punk pair have toured nationally with Wavves and Lightspeed Champion, while less cool but equally impressive is that their track, Have Fun, was hand-picked to soundtrack a TV ad for Myer. BobbySix.com's English readers should note they can see them at Brighton's Great Escape Festival in May.

Young Revelry play Last Night tomorrow!

Confused by the headline? Are Perth’s Young Revelry playing last night or tomorrow? we hear you scream. Well, both, actually.

The name of the event is Last Night and it's brought to you by the dudes responsible for those messy Purple Sneakers nights we've all experienced. Last Night is an equally sick party, with the added bonus of live bands, and it's all going down this Friday at The Gaelic Club, just near Central Station, in Sydney.

As well as a bunch of wicked DJs, Perth rockers Young Revelry will be ripping the room apart with their clashy punk sound, playing songs from their debut EP, You & I. Also on stage on Friday are Melbourne's retro indie poppers, Radio Star.

Tickets will set you back ten bones on the door and the madness starts from 8pm. Want more info? The facebook event has all the deets.
