Rargo to play at MUM this Friday.

How great is it when awesome stuff comes together just perfectly? Like how tonight, Team Bobbysix treated ourselves to the BEST handmade noodles followed by gelato for dessert. What a combination.

Well, on Friday, two more of our fave things meet to create awesomeness that rivals a menu of noodles and ice cream. A band that certain members of Bobbysix.com hold dear to their hearts are playing at a venue that also means a lot to us. Rargo, meet World Bar.

That's right, the Sydney venue that various members of Bobbysix.com have DJed at for a couple of years plays host to a gig from Port Macquarie band Rargo as part of the ever excellent Friday night staple, MUM.

If you don't know who Rargo are, then pay attention. They are an innovative young four-piece fusing together an eclectic mix of reggae, funk, jazz and pop, and have been an ever-increasing presence on the Sydney live scene over the past few months. With bundles of energy in their stage demeanour, they are worth checking out on Friday for sure. Also at MUM this Friday you'll find the usual mix of DJs, teapots, good times and live performances from the The Shake Up and the fucking brilliantly named Royston Vasie.

Changing Lanes map and playing times

We're getting hugely excited about this Saturday's Changing Lanes in Sydney. It's probably our fave festival of the year. Tickets are cheeeeeap, the line up is always bursting with local talent, the atmos is chilled (you won't find pilled-up shirtless oiks with the Aussie flag draped around their necks here), there are market stalls from super awesome local businesses and the whole thing feels organic. It's very clear that the organisers really put a lot of care and love into it, you know?

There are still a few tickets left, so grab yours before they run out. Also, if you click the above picture, you'll get a bigger version of the map and playing times. We would recommend arriving in time to see Cameras at 1.20pm and don't even think about leaving before PVT have blown your ears off with their headline set. There's so much good stuff going on... sets from Big Scary, Bleeding Knees Club and MUM DJs will be awesome, while you can also check out the fashion displays, street art and market stalls.

We'll be there with our camera in one hand and some kind of yummy vegetarian food in the other, so if you spot us, come say hi and give us a hug. We like hugs.

MUM brings the party to Sydney's Kings Cross every Friday!

There was a time when, in Sydney, Thursday became the new Friday... Health Club and all that. Then, Wednesday became the new Friday with The Wall mixing arty times and party times. Well, things have come full circle because now Friday is the new Friday. Down in Surry Hills you've got the fantastic Last Night, while, in Kings Cross, World Bar hosts MUM, the epic indie party spread across three floors, with a staggeringly cool mix of live bands and quality DJs (and we're not just saying that because Bobbysix is often represented behind the decks).

Take this Friday at MUM, for instance. DJs will be spinning the latest, greatest, weirdest, edgiest, coolest, danciest, mentalist tunes between ear-bleeding live sets from Let Me Down, Jungle Man, Grams, The Rubens, Corpus, The Ganaschz, Simo Soo and Vulture Culture. So, get yourself along to World Bar, order your favourite teapot full of yummy booze and get ready to dance your fucking legs off.

We Had Parties! The Rumble In The Jungle

Easter Sunday. It's a time for chilling out with the family, eating yourself into a chocolate coma and watching whatever crap movie Channel 10 is serving up for the zillionth time (we're guessing Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason or Love Actually), right? Sound good to you? No. Us neither. Hows about, instead, we all go to the SICKEST PARTY OF THE YEAR?

That's right, Sydneysiders had best get ready to rumble, because the 5th annual We Had Parties is on the horizon. With a ‘Rumble In The Jungle’ theme, the shindig at The Gaelic on Sunday 24th April is set to pit the biggest and best Sydney club nights against each other. In the blue and red corners this year will be LAST NIGHT (aka Purple Sneakers), MUM, GIRL THING, TEEN SPIRIT, F.R.I.E.N.D/s, GHETTO BLASTER and P*A*S*H.

The night will be spread across two rooms; so you can get bare-knuckle and sweaty downstairs by The Boxing Ring, where they'll be ringside girls announcing each heavyweight DJ crew, some knockout tunes and spit buckets. Okay, there won't be spit buckets. That would be gross. Meanwhile, upstairs in The Jungle you can tangle yourself up in the vines and party vibes.

Getting To Know... Big Dumb Kid

Indie/electronica artist, Big Dumb Kid, is about to take residency at MUM at Sydney's World Bar, playing every Friday in April (except Good Friday). We find out more about him:

I would describe my music as a popular blend of electronic sounds with hip hop beats, which in this day and age is a pretty broad statement. Typically I enjoy using a vast library of different sounds and I don’t limit myself to the same instruments on each song. I like big synth sounds but I also love acoustic pianos. I like the delivery of Hip Hop lyrics but I love the storytelling in Folk music. Oh and I love acoustic snares with tonnes of reverb! My formula tends to be pretty consistent but my execution is always changing.

I'm inspired by good music, good people and good times. I know it sounds pretty cheesy to put it like that, but that’s what it comes down to. When I sit down to compose music, I fantasize an emotion or event and build a mood off that. And lyrically I just write about what I know and what I have experienced, from big nights out to playing video games.

I grew up in the Western suburbs of Sydney and was always in awe when I came to the City as a kid. So naturally I moved here and it’s not really like I imagined it to be. During the week there are swarms of people doing their own thing and having fun, there is always something interesting going on in Sydney. Although there is something about weekends that attracts this weird subculture of jerks who take far too much ecstasy and go out looking to fight people. This sometimes makes really cool venues uncomfortable to be in. I enjoy the Inner Western Suburbs, it’s sociable, it’s genuine and it’s home.

If I could only listen to three albums for the rest of my life, they would be:

It might surprise people to learn that I am six feet and six inches tall.

In five years time I plan on being seven feet tall… and rich.
