World Movies Secret Cinema's inaugural event

Last Wednesday night, the first ever World Movies Secret Cinema was unveiled by SBS Subscription TV. Hundreds of guests converged in Sydney's Taylor Square - usually the grubby heart of partytown -  to discover the secret location was Lo-Fi and The Standard. The venue, normally host to boozy nights and indie shoegazing, was transformed into an Iranian-themed, cinematic wonderland, with lucky attendees given Iranian dosh which could be exchanged for free drinks, along with yummy Persian cuisine.

With the secret cinema concept popular around the world, there was a serious clamber for tickets to this little gem of an event. In under an hour of going on sale, they'd all been snapped up, leaving many punters (and, indeed, your friends at Bobbysix) scrambling around for spares. Those lucky enough to have scored tickets (at the stupidly cheap price of 25 bucks as well) received clues in the lead-up, with the location revealed via SMS on the day. Lavish theming and surprising elements, such as the appearances of sad brides and morality police, were clues to the mystery film. The Sundance-award-winning Circumstance was revealed in a lush pop-up cinema upstairs in The Standard, with an introduction from one of the lead actresses.

“We were thrilled to be able to bring this unique and innovative film experience to Australia for the first time,” said seriously chuffed General Manager Chris Keely. “World Movies is an immersive channel, with content that both entertains and pushes the boundaries, which we felt was perfectly reflected by this event. After selling out in minutes, and seeing such an enthusiastic response on the night, we’ll be looking to extend this concept with future World Movies Secret Cinema events in Sydney and around Australia.”

World Movies has captured the night in a little highlights video (above), and is using it to launch a

We need writers, photographers and a new name in exchange for free shit!

Hello, it's Bobby here.

I'm excited to say that Bobbysix.com is soon to get a major relaunch. Over the past five years, the blog has grown from something I would muck about with every now and again to a site that is updated daily, has a team of excellent writers and that gets a mega number of hits. Basically, it's become a bit too much for one person to cope with. My inbox is like a war zone. Although, admittedly, for that analogy to work you'd need to replace dead bodies with unanswered emails, which isn't quite as dramatic.

Anyway, the point of all this is to say that, in the new year, I'm teaming up with my Deputy Editor (the awarding-winning Heidi Pett) to create something brand new and really fucking cool. It'll still have the same awesome contributors as the B6, but it'll be prettier, more user-friendly and with in-depth writing from all over the globe.

But, to achieve this, we require your help. The first thing we need is a new name for the site. Thus far we have come up with nothing (my only suggestion of heidi is shit dot com didn't go down too well). So, please give us your ideas, either in the comments section below or to info@bobbysix.com. Everyone that suggests a name will go into a prize draw and we'll pick a winner at random and give them some free shit (gig tickets, CDs, that kinda thing).

Also, we're on the look out for more writers/photographers to join our fabulous team. We can't pay you at this stage, but we can send you to gigs/festivals and throw some free music at you. Plus, you might get to interview/photograph your heroes. If you think you've got what it takes to write/photograph for us, then send an email to info@bobbysix.com - maybe with an example of your work. We are especially looking for people across the UK, Northern America  (notably New York and San Francisco), Melbourne, Brisbane and all over Europe. So, yeah, if you are aspiring writer/photographer, then it's a good opportunity for you to get your work out there.

Also also, we need someone to help us design the new site. So if you're a bit of a spekky brainbox, firstly, you're our kind of dude, and secondly, help us build the damn thing and we'll ply you with booze/food/sexual favours/cuddles.

Once the new site is up, we're gonna have a massive launch party (infact, maybe even several launch parties across the globe). First though, please, for the love of God, help us think of a fucking name.

Icehouse want to play with you (and other people want to play Icehouse songs!)

We have two exciting snippets of Icehouse news today... Firstly, do you play music? Live in Western Sydney? Well, listen up... Iva Davies and Icehouse want to give one lucky band or solo performer from Western Sydney the opportunity to play live on stage at their Penrith show on the 29th September. The only requirements are that one or more band members need to be a local to the area and that your band are shit hot.

“I remember when Icehouse first started performing and how difficult it was to find gigs where there would be a receptive audience," said Davies. "So we'd like to give someone the opportunity to play with us to a crowd in their home area. I'd like to see what Western Sydney has to offer."

We've just launched our new facebook fan page and we're pretty excited. However, something is missing from it. And that something is your face. That's right, we want the world to know how spectacularly beautiful the people are who read our words are. Then we can, like, form some kind of super hot army and take over the world through the power of liking quite good music. Or something.

Ideas from Australian fans have been captured online and packed-up in a crate (above), ready to be transformed into actual event experiences. In a finale on 27th November, the world will swap nights, with each country exchanging the best of their nightlife with that of another.

On Thursday evening 21st October, Smirnoff is hosting a Send-Off party in Sydney for Australia's nightlife, where they'll be showcasing what Australians have nominated as being the best of the country's local nightlife and announcing the country Australia will be exchanging with for the big global event on November 27.

The best part is that you could be going to this Send-Off party in Sydney as a VIP!

Easy A, the new teen flick starring the rather wonderful husky redhead Emma Stone, comes out today. The story is thus: After a little white lie about losing her virginity gets out, a clean cut high school girl, played by Stone, sees her life paralleling Hester Prynne's in The Scarlet Letter, which she is currently studying in school - until she decides to use the rumor mill to advance her social and financial standing.
