When we first saw The Jezabels supporting Bridezilla in Bondi about 4 years ago, we thought "Yeah, this band has got some serious potential." Fast-forward to today and that potential has been realised to an incredible degree. 2011 ended with sold out shows across Australia on the back of UK and US tours, while accolades included Album Of The Year at the 2011 Rolling Stone Awards, Best Independent Artist at the AIR Awards and ARIA Nominations.
2012 is shaping up to be another big year for the quartet, with fans voting single Endless Summer in at number 9 in the triple j Hottest 100 and more recently the band have taken out the 7th Annual Australian Music Prize, for their debut LP Prisoner and received a nomination for Apra Song Of The Year for Endless Summer.
The Jezabels are currently doing a run of sold out shows in Europe and North America, and will be hitting up festivals all over Europe in the summer.

Here at Bobbysix.com, we occasionally mention Triple J and their Hottest 100. Now, our non-Australian readers probably wonder what the hell we are talking about. Well, to explain, Triple J is a radio station in Aus and, every Australia Day, they count down the most popular 100 singles as voted for by the public. The Hottest 100. It's a pretty big deal.
Indeed, Bobbysix's Deputy Editor Heidi has been known to take days sweating over her Hottest 100 votes, panicking about whether she should vote for her personal favourite on the album, or the most popular single, propelling a worthy artist to a higher rank? Is that selling out? What about that little-known band who she loves but that will never make it in, is that wasting her vote? And if she does that, will Art vs Science achieve a better result than they would have if she’d voted for, say, The Grates instead?) etc, etc, until oblivion. You get the picture.
Well, anyway, Melbourne DJs Nice and Ego recently compiled this little clip which mashes together all (yes all) 100 songs from this year's poll in an audio visual megamix. It's kinda like a microcosmic version of Australia Day. Only without the beers, the barbeque and the day off work. Still, you get the idea.

I spend a fairly embarrassing amount of time jaunting around the internet, getting inspired by people who are making and doing things. Often I’ll read the entire archives of a blog and then forget to bookmark it for later reference, so here are a few that I actually remember:
I started volunteering with FBi Radio in June and have finally found that community of beautiful, creative, interesting and interested people that I’ve been looking for in Sydney. Because, you know, I was starting to think this town was full of wankers and everybody was too cool for everything. These people give up their time and their skills out of love and passion and a desire to create, and it’s the best bullshit filter I’ve ever come across. What feels like forever ago, I spent two months sharing a backpack with my best friend as we travelled around India. Trains that were 19 hours late, colour and dust and beauty and heartbreak, escaping Darjeeling in the back of an army jeep, making dinosaur noises at leering men on train platforms, packing more books than clothes, dark green eyes and a hand on the small of my back. And the fact that when we got home we were too embarrassed to reach for the handles on the train, as we reeked of filthy Delhi bathrooms and four days of unwashed transit.
Heidi Pett - Deputy Editor As well as being a fine writer, Heidi is an award-winning radio producer and presenter. She takes photographs through a plastic lens,
drinks wine, listens to folk songs with gratuitous swears and can more often than not be found with her head buried in a book.
Having spent most of 2011 writing and recording, Australia's Millions have taken a confident stride towards the big time by winning radio station triple j's nationwide battle of the bands - The Unearthed 2011 Competition. This triumph means they will get to open this year's Splendour In The Grass Festival on the main stage, alongside sets from Kanye West, The Hives, Jane's Addiction and The Mars Volta.
Their debut EP is due out in late 2011 but, for now, you can sample some of their swaggering rock 'n' roll awesomeness by helping yourself to the free download below.

If you don't want to feel old, uncool and talentless, then you'd better not check out Stonefield. The Melbourne sisters play 70s-inspired rock that oozes the effervescence of youth while showing a musical maturity that belies their tender years. Described by Triple J's Dom Alessio as "the best high school band in the country," Stonefield have embarked on a huge run of Australian dates over the past two weeks and are playing at the Northcote Social Club this Friday. If you're in the area, then you'd be a flipping idiot not to get along. Support comes from Kashmere Club and the brilliantly named Royston Vasie.
The buzz is spreading so far and wide about this quartet of siblings that festival goers back in Old Albion will be able to catch them at Glastonbury this summer. Exciting times indeed.
